I love Art but I don't have an artistic bone in my body. I am worried I will be the worst student in the group. How do I overcome my anxiety?
Most people worry about attending their first art class. Remember, art-making can be learned and we will guide you every step of the way until you feel the confidence to branch out and try things on your own. Try changing the word 'anxious' to 'excitement'. Tell yourself that you are feeling 'excited' about trying something new. Contact us for help to you decide where to start.
I have my own Art materials. Can I bring them along?
You are welcome to bring some art supplies if you want to supplement the materials provided. There are many benefits to using the materials that are included. No discounts will be offered.
What is the best way to contact the organiser with any questions?
If you have any questions please email me (Natalie) or phone me on 0404390443. Until I become rich and famous, I will reply to all emails and answer all calls ASAP.
What should I bring?
All materials will be supplied unless otherwise specified. This gives you the opportunity to try before you buy. Why spend money on art materials that don't suit your needs? We always discuss the pros and cons of the materials we use so you can make informed choices about setting up your studio at home. I do recommend that you bring an apron or an old oversized t-shirt to protect your clothes. You will also need to bring your own food to snack on. Tea/coffee is supplied.
Is my registration transferrable?
Yes, you can update the name on your booking at any time by contacting me via email or you can transfer your booking to another date if you provide 10 days notice.

I’ve haven’t done any Art since I was a child and frankly I didn’t enjoy it all that much when I did. Why would it be any different now?
School Art is different from other Art. Most Primary school teachers are not specifically Art trained. For some, creating an authentic learning experience can be challenging when their own ‘art’ confidence or knowledge is low AND usually a specific Art budget is all but non-existent. This results in Art lessons that are often very low key and prescriptive. Add time pressure and large class numbers and it’s not very conducive to getting the creative juices flowing. It is different when you choose to learn Art later in life. Think of learning Art like you're learning a new language….an exciting, expressive, versatile and universal language that’s really fun to do.
I wish I had studied Art at high school. I can’t remember why I gave it up but now I have lost my confidence. Is it too late to try it again?
At Secondary school, the curriculum is crowded, and subjects must fit into the framework of the timetable, so many students lose the choice to continue with Art lessons beyond Year 8. Without guidance and access to the materials, it’s common for art slips off the radar when we leave school. Very soon, as we know, life gets in the way and we focus on what we have to do rather than what we want to do. I can’t stress enough how this can be VERY detrimental to our health and wellbeing. It’s never too late to get back into art, just look at artist Carmen Herrera, discovered at the age of 89.
I gave up on art when I was about 15. I wanted everything to be perfect, but I just couldn’t do it. Can you teach people with no talent?
Our teenage years can a difficult time for many reasons. It’s a time when we most of us want to blend in with our peers to feel “normal”. In my experience, teenagers have fantastic ideas, but when their skills don’t match up with the image they see in their mind, they get frustrated. Luckily as we age, self-expression becomes so much easier because we start to develop a sense of our own identity and of course there is less peer pressure. Remember, at Studio Yellow, your artwork is not formally assessed against criteria and given an A – E grading. Studio Yellow gives you time to relax, explore, experiment and enjoy the artistic process regardless of any perceived “natural” talent…so the answer is – YES!
I have been working in a very creative job, but now I’m so used to fulfilling the client’s needs I don’t feel like I would know where to start if I tried to use my Art skills for pleasure. How can I overcome this creative block?
My advice is to join some of my classes. You will be amazed at how the ideas will flow after a studio workshop. It's not uncommon for people with formal Art or Design training and loads of passion and talent, to lose their way when it comes to making their own Art. Family duties, household tasks and work commitments can take over and inspiration can be hard to find. Lots of people have told me that when they finally have the time/space/materials, they feel stuck because they don’t have the ideas. Studio Yellow classes aim to give you more than a fish! I believe in the Chinese proverb ‘Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.’ You might already have a fish (technical skill). Let’s learn HOW to fish so you will never run out of ideas….but also remember that word “lifetime” is also VERY important! The length of your life is unpredictable so I want you to think of about another quote I love....“One day? or day one. You decide!”
