At Studio Yellow you can expect to feel relaxed and supported as you are guided step by step through the process and techniques required to get you started. By the end of each session, you will gain enough confidence to allow you to continue practising Art at home.

If this is your very first Art class, be assured we will start with the basics. The open-ended nature of art allows everyone to work at his or her own pace. If you have ideas, you are welcome to explore them or you can be guided by us.

Classes held are on weekdays and weeknights, with longer, one-off workshops on Saturdays. I also hold relaxing Paint ‘n’ Sip style sessions on Sunday afternoons. Group bookings and private lessons are by appointment.

Studio Yellow is located in Manly West, Brisbane, walking distance from Bus Stops on Manly Road and ten minutes’ drive from the Manly Train Station. The full address is given upon booking. I also deliver workshops on-location at a venue of your choice for private group workshops such as Arty Party events and Corporate Wellness/Team building workshop.

No…Everything you need is always supplied and included in the price, even unlimited tea and coffee. I like to allow you to try the various Art media before you invest your own money in supplies for home use. By the end of every class, you will have a much better idea of what to buy and where to buy it. I share all my hot tips with you so you can make informed choices.

Absolutely not! Due to the open-ended nature of all art tasks, you will thoroughly enjoy repeating any programs or workshops. It is actually a great way for you to consolidate and extend your skills, ask more questions and build your self-confidence. Remember the subject matter can always be adapted to suit your skill level and keep it really interesting for you.

Absolutely, full-time workers need art in their lives to balance out their busyness. Currently, I offer classes on Wednesday evenings and fabulous stand-alone workshops on Saturday afternoons that cater for all levels, including complete beginners. As Studio Yellow is constantly evolving, it is wise to sign up to my mailing list so you are the first to know when new workshops and classes are scheduled. Remember I also cater for group bookings, so if you want to organise a workshop for your workplace or a bunch of your friends, contact me to discuss options. I have lots of ideas to offer.

Most people worry about attending their first art class. Remember, art-making can be learned and I will guide you every step of the way until you feel the confidence to branch out and try things on your own. Try changing the word ‘anxious’ to ‘excitement’. Tell yourself that you are feeling ‘excited’ about trying something new. Please contact me if you want help deciding where to start.

All materials will be supplied unless otherwise specified. This allows you to try before you buy. Why spend money on art materials that don’t suit your needs? I always discuss the pros and cons of the materials we use so you can make informed choices about setting up your studio at home. You will need to bring your own food to snack on. Tea/coffee is supplied.

You are welcome to bring some art supplies if you want to supplement the materials provided. There are many benefits to using the materials that are included. No discounts will be offered.

Yes, you can update the name on your booking at any time by contacting me via email with the new person’s full name, email address and phone number.

Minimum numbers are required for each workshop to go ahead. Should for any reason Studio Yellow cancel the workshop, you will be offered a full refund or the opportunity to credit the amount owed to another workshop.

School Art is different from other Art. Most Primary school teachers are not specifically Art trained. For some teachers, creating an authentic learning experience can be challenging when an Art budget is all but non-existent and their own ‘art’ confidence or knowledge is low. This results in Art lessons that are often very low key and prescriptive. Add short lessons and large class numbers and it’s not very conducive to getting any creative juices flowing. Art It is VERY different when you choose to learn Art later in life. Think of learning Art like you’re learning a new language….an exciting, expressive, versatile and universal language that’s really fun to explore.

It’s never too late! If you’ve had a bad experience at school, remember, the curriculum is crowded, and teachers must work to criteria for assessment purposes. Learning Art as an adult is heaps better! I can’t stress enough… It’s never too late to get back into art, just look at artist Carmen Herrera, who discovered at the age of 89.

Creating Art during our teenage years can be difficult for many reasons. It’s a time when most of us want to blend in with our peers to feel “normal” so we fear the judgment of others. In my experience, teenagers are easily frustrated with art because they have fantastic ideas, but often their skills don’t match up with the complex images and concepts they want to express. Luckily, self-expression becomes so much easier when there is less peer pressure and no formal Assessment. Remember, at Studio Yellow, your artwork is not school so your work will not be judged against a set of criteria for a Report Card. Studio Yellow gives you the opportunity and space to relax, explore, experiment and enjoy the artistic process regardless of any perceived “natural” talent…so the answer is – YES!

My advice is to join some of my classes. You will be amazed at how the ideas will flow after even just one of my studio workshops. It’s not uncommon for people with formal Art or Design training and loads of passion and talent, to lose their way when it comes to making their own Art. Family duties, household tasks and work commitments can take over and inspiration can be hard to find. Then when you finally have the time/space/materials, you feel stuck because you don’t know where to start!  Studio Yellow classes aim to give you more than a fish! I believe in the Chinese proverb ‘Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.’ You might already have a fish (technical skill). Let’s learn HOW to fish so you will never run out of ideas….My classes are ‘choice-based’ so you don’t have to copy the way I make my art. My job is to teach you skills and encourage your individuality and self-expression.

Most workshops are repeated, but sometimes, because I have so many topics I’d like to offer, it can be up to 6 months or more before you will see the same one again. If you are unable to attend but you are VERY interested please let me know. I am more likely to schedule the event again when I know there is a lot of interest. HOWEVER, always remember that the length of your life is unpredictable so I want you to think of about another quote I love….“One day? or day one. You decide!” Making time for an Art class could be DAY ONE of an exciting new direction in your life.

Every week is a stand-alone lesson, covering new content. If places exist, there is absolutely no reason why you should not start anytime after week one. All you need to do is contact me so I can adjust the price for you. Remember, once enrolled, you are a VIP and you will receive priority booking for the following Term if you choose to continue.

It is NOT possible. If you wish to book a Private Session, it might be possible to bring your baby, however, please understand that babies change the atmosphere in the studio for everyone present.

Group bookings of 5 – 10 people can be made at alternative times, on topics of your choice. Please contact me directly to discuss options. I have ideas for all occasions or I can work with your ideas. For more than 10 people, we will need to find another venue and additional costs may apply depending on the location.

You are welcome to join the program at any time. I offer eight 4-week modules per calendar year however if places are available, you can start at the beginning or mid-way through any module and complete the modules in any order. Over the course of one year, the entire program consists of 32 stand-alone lessons. There is no advantage to postponing your enrolment to start with Module 101. Whenever you start, you will automatically receive priority booking for the subsequent modules.

While I am not a registered NDIS Service Provider, I have worked with many Self-Managed and Plan-Managed clients. To access the NDIS funding for your classes please DO NOT book via my website. Instead, contact me to discuss your specific circumstances. I am happy to provide Invoices and Service Agreements (Admin fees may apply). Please note, Studio Yellow is NOT a Wheelchair Friendly venue.

Support workers must pay a discounted ticket (50%) to stay in the Studio during any group session.

To sit at the tables and participate in the class, the support worker will need to book a place and pay full price.

Another option is to arrange a short ‘meet and greet’, before your first class, to help you to feel more at ease about attending the class on your own.

Of course, every situation is different so feel free to call me (0404 390 443) to discuss your needs in more detail.

Art materials make great presents however if you don’t know what to do with them they may end up in a cupboard for years. A Studio Yellow  Gift Voucher is the perfect solution. You choose the value, then your friend can choose the experience. When you purchase a Gift Voucher, a downloadable PDF will be delivered straight to your inbox, so it is ready to share immediately. You’ll be giving an EXPERIENCE that will be remembered forever.

Yes! Gift Vouchers are available for purchase. You choose the dollar value (minimum spend is $25). The voucher is then emailed to you so you can easily pass it on to the recipient. Gift Vouchers are a great way to encourage others to experience the therapeutic benefits of art.

Can and Should. An art experience at Studio Yellow lasts a lot longer than a bunch of flowers and it’s much healthier than a bottle of something acholic or a trinket you know they’ll never use. Your gift could be life-changing, in a good way, because everyone benefits from trying new things and living a more creative life. https://www.studioyellow.com.au/shop/wps_wgm_giftcard/gift-vouchers-1/
