Description

Enjoy a Relaxing, Creative Weekend Workshop at Studio Yellow – Manly West, Brisbane

Discover a new way to practise mindfulness and creativity in this hands on block printing workshop designed especially for beginners. Whether you’re completely new to printmaking or rediscovering ‘linocutting’ from your school days, this workshop will expand your creative skills.

I will guide you through the entire process of designing, carving, and printing your own original artwork.

You’ll learn how to turn any image — supplied on the day or brought from home — into a bold, high contrast motif full of pattern and personality. I’ll guide you step by step from your initial idea through to your finished print, offering as much support or independence as you prefer. The focus and concentration required to carve your block is deeply calming, and the joy of printing multiple copies of your design is incredibly satisfying.

Block printing is wonderfully versatile and easy to continue at home. You don’t need a printing press or a large studio — just your carved block, a few simple tools, and a small workspace. The block you create in this workshop becomes a bespoke stamp you can reuse again and again to make fine art prints, greeting cards, wrapping paper, collage elements, and more.

Optional Fabric Printing Add On

Once you’ve mastered printing on paper, you’ll also have the option to print your design onto fabric that you bring along (must be 100% cotton). This is a fantastic way to personalise tea towels, tote bags, clothing, pencil cases, or any textile you’d love to transform.

You’ll learn how to prepare your fabric, apply ink correctly, and achieve crisp, long lasting prints. If you’ve attended my block printing workshop before, this is a wonderful way to extend your skills and explore new creative possibilities.

What You’ll Make

  • A hand carved printing block (your choice of 11 × 11 cm square or 15 cm round)
  • Multiple prints on quality paper
  • Optional: beautifully printed fabric pieces you bring from home
  • A finished artwork ready to frame
  • The confidence and knowledge to continue block printing at home

What’s Included

  •  Your double sided carving block (to keep forever)
  • All printing materials, inks, tools, and equipment for use on the day
  • Step by step instructions and personalised guidance
  • Organisational tips and advice for setting up your home studio, or teaching in a school setting
  • Tea/coffee and light snacks
  • Apron for use on the day
  • Relaxing music
  • Photos of your progress (shared upon request)
  • All clean up taken care of for you

What’s NOT Included

If interested, please bring your own plain, smooth 100% cotton fabric. Alternatively, bring $10 CASH to purchase a 50 x 70 blank white cotton tea towel on the day. Do not hesitate to contact me with questions about the suitability of what you want to bring along before the day

This Workshop Is Perfect If You:

  •  Are a complete beginner wanting an enjoyable creative experience

Why You’ll Love Block Printing

Block printing encourages you to slow down, breathe, and carve away the parts that aren’t needed — just like in life. It’s calming, absorbing, and incredibly rewarding. You’ll leave with a sense of achievement, a beautiful handmade artwork, and a reusable block you can print with again and again.
